Fall Pottery Classes:

The pottery classes will make available basic instruction in working with clay, decoration, glazing and firing pottery. With seven people, participants can proceed at their own pace, so beginners are welcome.

Open to ages 12 and up, beginner to intermediate.

The structure of the classes will be casual; come when you want! You can take an individual class or come to all of them. Tools, glazes and firing are included. Fall class dates and times:

Tuesday evenings, 6:30 - 9:00 pm

Fee: 240.00 for 10 week class

The classes will include a 25/22 lb. bag of clay, the firing and glaze materials. The studio has tools and brushes for student use. Participants should bring a small bucket and an old towel. Open studio time is on Saturdays from 9:30 until 3:45.

Kiln Use and Maintenance

A classroom presentation on proper firing techniques for electric kilns. Discussion will include firing with digital controllers, kilnsitters and pyrometric cones. There will also be instruction on simple maintenance and troubleshooting that will help you to keep your kiln at peak performance.

Free with kiln purchase within last 12 months.

Wood Fire Workshop, Aug. 10, 11 & 12, 2012.

Bring your bisque fired, cone 10 clay pots and forms, appr. 15 to 20 pc., and in this workshop you will glaze them, load them into the Noborigama wood fired kiln and fire them. My studio glazes can be used. Clay purchased at Studio Sales can be bisqued at the studio for no extra charge.

Friday - Saturday, short lecture (Fri.) and glazing, 9:30 to 12:30 and 1:30 to 4:30.

Sunday - up at 7:00 am, fire until 9:00 pm. The kiln is fired by “shifts”, usually 5-6 hours long.

The kiln will be unloaded the following Thursday, Aug. 16, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm.

Ideal opportunity for teachers professional development requirements. Aug. 10, 11 & 12, 2012. Lodging is available within 2 miles of the studio. Camping may be a possibility as well, will know more by May....

The Pottery Studio
The studio has 8 electric potter’s wheels, 3 electric kilns, tile press and clay extruder. There is also a raku kiln and wood fired kiln out back. We use a stoneware clay in the classes as well as my own studio glazes and some commercial colors. There is storage for each students weekly output.

Class Materials & Open Studio
Participants can attend either the day or evening to make up an 8 week block. First come first serve, I can only provide 7 spots per individual class! Studio will be open on Saturdays for class participants - one Saturday for each class signed into. Clay will be $20 per 25 lb. of #112 or 22 lb. of Tucker Mid Sm. Stone for class participants. Clay price covers the cost of bisque, glazes and glaze firiing.


Open studio for the general public is available for a flat fee of $26 per hour. Clay, glazes and firing are not included.

Private lessons are available for $30 per hour plus materials. Call me for more information, 737-7074.
